In case you are wondering if denying access to social media violates civil rights, it does not.
Facebook, Twitter, the other social media platforms are not the government. They are private sector entities, and therefore, they have no First Amendment obligation to protect your freedom of speech. To the contrary, they have their own First Amendment rights—their media right.
This is something I didn't really think of, from the social media company perspective. I still feel like they shouldn't muzzle free speech, of course with the exception of speech that incites violence.
Since the social media platforms have so much reach, many feel that cutting off access to them inhibits their ability to exercise free speech, however as stated in this post it's important to point out what the rights and responsibilities of private businesses are.
