Indigenous women face murder rates that are 10 times the national average, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Although this community is disproportionally affected by atrocities, their faces are still missing from our social media and news outlets. The silence surrounding MMIW is deeply racist, and perpetuates the toxic notion that Indigenous lives are less important than white lives. We must do the work to hold news outlets accountable, and uplift the names of missing and murdered Indigenous women.
